Comparing Adjectives

  To compare things, you put più...di (more...than), tanto...quanto (as...as), and il, i, le più with an adjective. The adjectives agrees in the usual way:

Maria è più alta di me.   Mary is taller than I am.

Maria è tanto alta quanto suo fratello.     Mary is as tall as her brother.

Maria è la più alta.   Mary is the tallest.

 Just as in English, common adjectives do not add più or il più, but change completely:

buono        good

migliore       better

il migliore    best

cattivo        bad

peggiore     worse

il peggiore   worst
